STORY / GAMEPLAY Judge Dredd is a classic, side-scrolling, run 'n gun game but a bit different than other games of its genre. Every stage has a set of objectives, an obligatory and an optional. For instance, in the first stages, you need to quell a series of riots by destroying weapon shipments. The secondary objective almost always involves arresting or killing all the enemies of the stage. This can be more complicated than it sounds as each criminal needs a different approach / strategy to surrender. This can involve using a particular type of ammo, physical attacks instead of guns or causing a specific amount of damage without killing him. You are given a short duration of time to arrest the criminal before they get back on fighting.
GRAPHICS / SOUND The graphics on the GameGear are good. Each level is nicely designed with detailed backgrounds echoing an era of a barren wasteland somewhere in the future whilst the sprites move fast and the scrolling is quite smooth. It might be a bit tricky to climb ropes as you must stay near them at a certain point, in order to ascent or descend.
The game's sound is equally good with a variety of sound effects like gunfire and explosions, accompanied by some cool (but rather short and repetitive) tunes.
